Opening rounds of 67, five under par, not only earned Paul Casey, Luke Donald, Nick Dougherty and Andrew McLardy a share of the first round lead but also helped raise £3,750 for The European Tour Sport Relief Challenge.
The European Tour Sport Relief Challenge 2006 got underway at the BMW Championship 2006 – The Players’ Flagship at Wentworth Club and will continue with The Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond on July 13-16. All four days of both events are being televised by BBC Sport.
This week, title sponsors BMW, host venue Wentworth Club and The European Tour have pledged their support to Sport Relief 2006. The system for raising the money will see the sponsor, the venue and the Tour each donate £250 per shot for the lowest score to par in every round. The five under par rounds of 67 therefore raised (5x750) £3,750.
The total raised for The European Tour Sport Relief Challenge since its launch in 2002 has now reached £81,442. The objective for 2006 is to take this sum in excess of £100,000.
