Adolfo Morales, who, as lawyer to the Ballesteros family, assisted in the founding of Amen Corner and managed the company over the past 17 years, has died at the age of 62 after a long and brave battle with cancer.
During that time he was the man in trust of the Ballesteros family, being responsible for the strategic development of the company whilst his contribution to the game of golf in Spain included initiating the Turespaña series of tournaments.
Indeed it was Aldolfo who first promoted the idea that regional governments should finance golf events to promote their region or country, and with the Government of the Balearic Islands started the Turespaña series of tournaments which became an important part of The European Tour International Schedule.
Prior to taking part in Amen Corner’s management Adolfo, who also had his own law firm, worked for the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.
Ken Schofield, Executive Director of The European Tour, said: “We are hugely saddened by the passing of Adolfo Morales. We had the deepest respect for him and he will be missed dearly by all at The European Tour. The European Tour send their sincere condolences at this very sad time to Adolfo’s wife, Maria Ignacia Hernandez-Sanjuan de Palacio, his children Adolfo, Juan, Nacho and Carola and all his family and friends.”
Seve Ballesteros said: "Adolfo, apart from being a very close and personal advisor of mine and my family, he contributed to the development of golf in Spain in a very determined way. In the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, Adolfo played an important role during the 20 years he worked with them. He was awarded the Royal Medal of Merit in golf, but above all his virtues there was his human quality. We all will miss him."
Iván Ballesteros added: “Adolfo was a very important person for us, not only because he worked with us but for the big friendship we had with him. We have lost a great man who has done everything for golf in Spain. He will always be in our minds.
“He had a tremendous love for the game and over the years developed a special, close knit relationship with Seve and all the Ballesteros family.”
