Asian PGA Executive Director Ramlan Haron receives Sports Leadership Award

Asian PGA Executive Director Ramlan Haron has been honoured with the Malaysian Sports Leadership Award for his outstanding services and contribution to the development of golf.

In the Malaysian Sports Award Ceremony organised by the National Sports Council, Haron was selected for the prestigious award by a panel consisting of journalists and leading sports officials.

Before taking over the helm of the Asian PGA in 1994, Haron served the Malaysian PGA as its secretary and Vice President for many years.

Under his leadership, the Asian PGA Tour is now recognised as the fastest growing circuit in the world where it will offer over US$12 million in prize money this season.

"It is indeed a great honour to be selected for this prestigious award and I will continue to play a role towards the development and promotion of this game," said Haron.

As Executive Director of the Asian PGA, Haron has greatly expanded playing opportunities for Asian PGA members, both at home and abroad. He was also one of the key figures behind the launch of the Asian PGA Tour in 1995.

Haron is a board member of the International Federation of PGA Tours and also sits on the committee for the World Golf Hall of Fame.

He comes from a family with rich sporting pedigree where his father was the national football team manager while his elder brother played football for the country at youth level.
