Darren Clarke is to be awarded an honorary degree from the Queen’s University Belfast in his native Northern Ireland in recognition of his services to professional golf.
Clarke has played a significant role in the last five Ryder Cups, helping Europe to four victories over the USA in the biennial competition.
A winner of ten European Tour titles, including the 2000 WGC – Accenture World Match Play when he defeated World Number One Tiger Woods in the final, Clarke is a hugely popular figure throughout the world of golf, having won tournaments in Africa America and Asia as well as Europe.
His services to the game have earned him a place alongside the likes of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and MRI pioneer Sir Peter Mansfield, who will also be awarded honorary degrees in a ceremony to take place this coming July at Queen’s University.
