Day two digest: Scandinavian Invitation

Matthew Fitzpatrick heads into the weekend with a two shot lead after managing to keep his charging playing partner Henrik Stenson at bay on day two of the Scandinavian Invitation.

Meanwhile, there was plenty of low scoring across the afternoon as the later starters enjoyed the better of the playing conditions.

Local lad Stenson gets the crowd going

It looked and sounded like half of Gothenburg had come out to support home hero Henrik Stenson as he reeled off six birdies in a row around the turn to move into contention on Friday afternoon. Just listen to the roars...

Girrbach's delightful drive

Switzerland's Joel Girrbach opted for an aggressive approach at the 267-yard par four 12th, pulling out his driver and going for the green. Not only did he find the putting surface but he left himself less than four feet for a stunning eagle.

Noren's successful spell

Swede Alex Noren's career has gone from strength to strength since he won this event in 2015, with his four victories in 2016 followed by further wins at the BMW PGA Championship in 2017 and the HNA Open de France last season prior to his Ryder Cup debut at the same venue later in 2018. But this stat shows exactly how well he has done... In the last four European Tour seasons, Noren has earned an average of €572 per shot. Based on this, he has earned €79,508 so far this week after two rounds.

Fitzpatrick goes low

Matthew Fitzpatrick's brilliant 65, combined with Thursday's 64, saw him post his lowest ever 36 hole total of 129. He is going to take some catching if he continues to play like this over the weekend.

Paratore's unlikely birdie

Renato Paratore would have almost certainly been delighted to escape with a par after sending his tee shot at the short 15th to a tricky spot short of the green. But he went one better than that, holing his chip for a brilliant birdie to get to one under par.
