Scott Drummond’’s victory in the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth Club lifted him 340 places in the Official World Golf Ranking to the World Number 95 while runner-up Angel Cabrera of Argentina and third placed Joakim Haeggman of Sweden both earned a place in next month’’s US Open Championship by climbing into the World top 50.
The 30 year old Scotsman won the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth Club, the European Tour’’s flagship event, with a sensational eight under par final round of 64 for a 19 under par total 269 and a two stroke victory over Cabrera with Haeggman a further stroke back. Victory catapulted Drummond 340 places in the World Ranking and earned him exemptions to the 133rd Open Golf Championship at Royal Troon from July 15-18 and the World Golf Championships – NEC Invitational from August 19-22, both of which he will be playing for the first time.
Cabrera and Haeggman were also celebrating after climbing into the World Top 50, Cabrera moving up from 78th to 43rd and Haeggman from 75th to 50th, to earn a place in the US Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills GC, Southampton, New York, USA, from June 17-20.
David Toms successfully defended the FedEx St. Jude Classic title with a six stroke victory from compatriot Bob Estes in second place. Toms jumps up one place in the World Ranking to 15th and Estes climbs nine places to World Number 60.
Tetsuji Hiratsuka won the Mitsubishi Diamond Cup on the Japan Golf Tour taking the title by 5 strokes from Hidemasa Hoshino. Hiratsuka climbs 32 places in the Official World Golf Ranking and is now World Number 101.
Chris Anderson defeated Jason Buha, Paul Gow and Brendan Jones in a playoff to win the SAS Carolina Classic on the Nationwide Tour and moves up 66 places in the World Ranking to number 306.
