Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia, Retief Goosen and Adam Scott head The European Tour challenge at The Barclays, trailing leader KJ Choi of Korea by six strokes with two rounds remaining.
Choi shot a five under par 66 to replace first round leader Rory Sabbatini as the front runner at Westchester Country Club in New York. Building on an opening round 64, Choi stands at 12 under par 130, two strokes ahead of American Rich Beem, who shot a 68 and four clear of Sabbatini, a second American Steve Stricker and Australia's Geoff Ogilvy.
Els, Garcia, Goosen, and Scott are among seven players tied at six under par.
Choi started on the back nine at Westchester County Club' s West Course, notching one of his four birdies at the tenth. He also eagled the par-four eighth before giving a shot back on his final hole.
The 37 year old has been playing his best golf of the year in recent months, winning the Memorial Tournament in June and the AT&T National in early July.
Nick O’Hern, picked by Captain Gary Player to represented the International Team in the Presidents Cup, continued his good form with a 66 to move to five under par and in the group that also includes Ian Poulter, who, after a one under par 70 in the first round, followed up with a four under par round of 67.
Justin Rose is one shot further back after a 68 and Ireland's Open champion Padraig Harrington is three under par overall, level with Englishman Brian Davis.
