England's Ross Fisher, who grew up playing at Wentworth Club, launched this year’s Putts for Charity initiative run by leading financial security company Genworth Financial at the BMW PGA Championship.
Fisher, who was unveiled Genworth Financial’s Brand Ambassador, began the four-day fundraising event by making a one putt at the specially constructed green in the tented village.
The Genworth Foundation has donated £5,000 to the Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity for Fisher's successful one-putt.
It is also encouraging spectators to have a go themselves, with a further £1 being given for each one putt made by the public visiting the ‘Putts for Charity’ putting area and £2 for every one putt made by the players during the BMW PGA Championship.
Fisher helped raise £6,284 on the first day of the Championship and urged people to visit the initiative throughout the week.
He said: “I am delighted to be invited to join the Genworth team as a Brand Ambassador, and I am especially excited to be a part of the Putts for Charity initiative. For me, charity is about providing opportunities and support to those who need it most, so it seems apt that we launch this year’s programme at Wentworth – the club that gave me the opportunities and support that helped me to get where I am today.”
