Five global stars join Genesis Scottish Open field

World Number Three Patrick Cantlay, four-time Major winner Brooks Koepka, the past two Olympic Gold medallists Xander Schauffele and Justin Rose, and former European Number One Tommy Fleetwood have confirmed their participation in the Genesis Scottish Open, the third Rolex Series event of the 2022 season.

The five global stars are set to further bolster the stellar field at Scotland’s national open, which now boasts four of the top five and ten of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Ranking, including all four current Major Champions - Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas.

The Genesis Scottish Open will be co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR for the first time as part of a historic Strategic Alliance when it returns to The Renaissance Club from July 7-10, in the week before the 150th Open Championship, and fans can buy tickets now at et.golf/GSO2022Tickets.

Cantlay has been one of the most in-form golfers in the world over the last 12 months, having won the 2021 FedEx Cup after closing out an impressive season with victories in two of the three FedEx Cup Play-Off events.

The 30-year-old also has a win under his belt in 2022 alongside Ryder Cup teammate Schauffele at April’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

“I’m excited to make my Genesis Scottish Open debut next month,” said the World Number Three. “To play back-to-back weeks in Scotland, the Home of Golf, will be awesome and hopefully I can bring my A-game for the Scottish fans.”

Koepka has previously won on Scottish soil during his time on the European Challenge Tour and has played the Scottish Open on three occasions. The former World Number One is relishing the opportunity to return to the event for the first time since 2015.

“I can’t wait to get back to Scotland,” said Koepka. “I have great memories of playing there in previous years and the fans are always fantastic. I think it’s great that this event is now sanctioned by the PGA TOUR and it’s shaping up to be a fun week.”

World Number 12 Schauffele lived the Olympic dream in Tokyo last summer, winning Gold for the Unites States at Kasumigaseki Country Club. A memorable year then continued with a winning debut in the Ryder Cup in September.

The 28-year-old sealed his fifth PGA TOUR win in April at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, alongside Cantlay, adding to a list of victories that includes the 2018 WGC-HSBC Champions.

He returns to the Renaissance Club for a second appearance in the Genesis Scottish Open following a top ten finish last season.

“I loved this event when I played last year so I am delighted to be returning this summer,” said the 28-year-old. “The field is going to be incredible and it looks like we’re all set for a fantastic week in front of some of the best fans in golf.”

Rose, the 2014 Scottish Open champion, made history in Rio two years later as he claimed the Gold Medal for Great Britain on golf’s return to the Olympic Games for the first time since 1904.

The former World Number One and 2013 U.S. Open champion will return to the Genesis Scottish Open for his 11th appearance and first since 2018 as he aims to add to the title he won at Royal Aberdeen eight years ago.

The English Ryder Cup star and 2018 FedExCup champion will be vying to add a third Rolex Series win to his glittering resumé in East Lothian this summer.

Rose said: “It was an incredible experience to lift this trophy back in 2014. I love playing in front of the Scottish fans so I’m really looking forward to teeing it up at the Renaissance Club. With the tournament co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the PGA TOUR it looks like this is going to be a huge occasion for everyone involved, but especially for the fans.”

Fleetwood came agonisingly close to winning at Renaissance Club in 2020, losing out to Aaron Rai in a play-off, and the two-time Ryder Cup player also claimed his maiden DP World Tour title on Scottish soil back in 2013.

The 31-year-old, who won the Race to Dubai – now the DP World Tour Rankings – in 2017, will be targeting a third Rolex Series title at The Renaissance Club as he looks to build on a solid season so far which has included a top five at the US PGA Championship and a top ten at last week’s Porsche European Open.

“I love playing in Scotland and the fans are always incredible so it will be great to get back there for what is set to be a cracking week,” said Fleetwood. “I feel like my game is coming together nicely so hopefully I can give the crowds something to cheer about at the Renaissance Club.”

Further players confirmed for the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open are Major Champions Jordan Spieth and Hideki Matsuyama, multiple DP World Tour winners Matt Fitzpatrick and Tyrrell Hatton, defending champion Min Woo Lee and Scotland’s number one, Robert MacIntyre.

The Genesis Scottish Open is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR, counting on both the DP World Tour Rankings and the FedExCup, and boasts a new title sponsor in Genesis, the luxury automotive brand from South Korea.

The tournament benefits from the continued commitment of the Scottish Government, managed by VisitScotland, and retains its place in golf’s global calendar the week ahead of The 150th Open (July 11-17), as part of these agreements through to 2025. The player field will be a split between members of both the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR.
