Genworth Stats Pack - M2M Russian Open Preview

This week the Genworth Stats Pack heads to Russia for the M2M Russian Open, to be held at Tseleevo Golf and Polo Club. Our preview highlights some of the marquee players and those with form coming into the event.

Simon DYSON

It has been a quiet season so far for six time European Tour winner Simon Dyson, who up until recently had not finished inside the top 20 at any event. But things look to be changing with 5th and 12th place finishes in his last two starts (which were at the end of playing a long stretch of nine tournaments in a row). Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of June, the 35 year old Englishman is now hitting over 70% of Greens in Regulation, plus he is making relatively few mistakes (both signs of improved play). Simon starts as the tournament favourite and he will be looking to keep improving.

Søren KJELDSEN

Much the same as Simon Dyson, it has also been a quiet season for Søren Kjeldsen up until recently, but he too is starting to show some form, with 18th, 8th and 31st place finishes in his last three events. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of June, the 38 year old Danish golfer is hitting 73% of Greens in Regulation and dropping relatively few shots per round, plus his Par 3 Scoring is under Par at 2.95. The three time European Tour winner should go well this week.

Tommy FLEETWOOD

Tommy Fleetwood is enjoying his second full season playing on the European Tour. He is yet to achieve a top three finish but he has missed just four cuts all year and looks to be progressing from strength to strength. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of June, the 22 year old Englishman ranks 21st out of all the players for Stroke Average and 38th for Greens in Regulation, plus he is making lots of birdies and scoring superbly on the Par 4’s and Par 5’s. Note that Tommy finished 2nd at this course back in 2010 (as a Challenge Tour event) so he knows his way around.

Robert ROCK

Robert Rock arrives this week off the back of two missed cuts (in France and Scotland) but those events followed a runner-up finish in Ireland at the beginning of the month, which has salvaged a pretty disappointing year so far. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of June, the 36 year old Englishman seems to be performing very well on and around the greens, ranking high in each of the short game categories. He is also scoring well on the Par 4’s and Par 5’s but is lacking a bit of consistency on the Par 3’s.

Romain WATTEL

Romain Wattel is progressing well in his third full year on the European Tour, with two top four finishes already. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of June, the 22 year old French talent is looking solid in most departments of the game, hitting it long and straight off the tee, averaging almost 70% for Greens in Regulation and scoring consistently across the different hole types. The Tseleevo Golf and Polo Club would be an ideal venue for Romain to capture his maiden European Tour title.

Damien MCGRANE

Damien McGrane is performing steadily this season, making eight cuts from his last nine starts, but he is still awaiting that big finish to push on and make it a great year. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of June, the 42 year old Irish golfer is driving the ball accurately and hitting a reasonable number of Greens in Regulation. Furthermore Damien ranks 5th of all the players for Putts per Round and he is averaging a world class 2.93 for Par 3 Scoring.

Jorge CAMPILLO

Jorge Campillo has kicked on nicely over the past couple of months, finishing in the money in each of his last six events. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of June, the 27 year old Spanish golfer is looking solid in most departments of the game without excelling in any one area, but it is all leading to consistency. This is Jorge’s second full year on the European Tour so he is still learning new things every week. Note that he finished 11th at this course back in 2011 (as a Challenge Tour event).

Morten Ørum MADSEN

Morten Ørum Madsen is enjoying an excellent first full season on the European Tour with three top ten finishes already, and he arrives off the back of a string of solid results (including a 28th place finish at the US Open). His Genworth Statistics since the beginning of June are a little distorted due to a difficult schedule of events so we won’t pass comment on them here, but we should highlight that the 25 year old Danish golfer finished 4th at this course last year (as a Challenge Tour event) and he is one of two Danish dark horses this week.

JB HANSEN

JB Hansen is the second of our two Danish dark horses this week. He arrives off the back of a superb 3rd place finish at the Scottish Open, plus he finished 4th at this course last year (as a Challenge Tour event), the same as Madsen. Looking at his Genworth Statistics since the beginning of June, the 22 year old golfer is hitting 72.5% of Greens in Regulation and he ranks high for all three putting categories. If he can keep the momentum stopping double bogey scores off the card this week he may well be right up there come Sunday afternoon.
