Goosen Four Adrift of Woods and Haas in Tour Championship

Tiger Woods moved into a share of the lead going into the final round of the Tour Championship on the US PGA Tour after a stunning five under par 65 left him tied with Jay Haas on nine under par 201 and four clear of European Tour Member Retief Goosen, Mike Weir and Stephen Ames.

Woods bogeyed the first hole at East Lake Golf Club, Atlanta, Georgia, but that was his only blemish as he picked up six birdies in his remaining 17 holes.

Woods won the World Golf Championshis – Accenture Match Play in February but has yet to get his hands on a strokeplay title in 2004, a statistic he could now put right in the last event of the season.

Goosen, the reigning US Open Champion and runner-up to fellow South African Ernie Els in the Volvo Order of Merit, carded a one under par 69 to lie four adrift through 54 holes alongside the Canadian pair of Ames (70) and Weir (67).

Among the other European Tour Members in action, Spain’’s Sergio Garcia and Northern Ireland’’s Darren Clarke, the joint first round leader, are nine shots off the lead on 210 after third rounds of 69 and 70 respectively, with Els a further shot adrift.

Ireland’’s Padraig Harrington lies on two over par 212, the same mark as Fiji’’s Vijay Singh, the World Number One, whose quest for a tenth title of an outstanding year has all but come to an end as he lies 11 shots off the pace with just 18 holes to go.
