How Derksen Did It in Dubai

Commencing in Dubai, The European Tour has launched a new display of statistics on europeantour.com which can be found on the players scorecard pages within live scoring. The improved display and additional information make it that much easier to see exactly what is needed to win on The European Tour. The stats for this weeks winner show how 5 out of 5 scrambles in his final round 65 helped Robert Jan Derksen claim his maiden European Tour win.

Included in the new display are the weeks scores to par on the Par 3's, 4's and 5's and we can see how Derksen made the par 5's count in Dubai, coming in 11 under par for those holes alone, aswell as a 4 under average on the par 4's and 2 under on the par 3's.

A steady and improving week from the tee saw Derksen hit 12 out of 14 fairways in his final round. We've changed percentages to actual figures within the week to offer an exact reference to what happened out on the course. We've done the same with greens per round. On the season's cumulative stats pages you can see both the percentage and the average number of

fairways

or

greens

per round that this percentage relates to.

In his final round 65 Robert Jan Derksen hit 13 greens in regulation and had he 2 putted all of these he would have recorded 26 GIR Putts per Round. He did however record just 19 GIR Putts per Round and from this we can calculate that he was 7 under par for the day on the greens he hit in regulation.

With the new scrambles category we can also see that Robert had an exceptional day where the putting surface was missed, saving par 5 times and an impressive 16 out of 20 scrambles for the week clearly vital on his way to victory.

Following his win, Robert stated that he was glad his drive at the final hole was not one of his best as it took out the decision to go for the green in two. With the new Par 5's in Two category it is possible to see which players are over powering the course in this area.

The final additions are the number of 0,1,2 and 3 putts or worse that the players have in each round. Here, it is interesting to note that the new Dubai Champion had 3 three putts for the week, though they were countered by two holed shots from off the green.
