David Howell of England has been named as The European Tour Golfer of the Month for November following his magnificent victory in the HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai, China, where he held off the challenge from World Number One Tiger Woods to claim his third European Tour title.
The 30 year old launched his 2006 campaign in perfect style, converting a one stroke advantage over Woods after 54 holes into a three stroke victory with a four under par 68 for a winning total of 20 under par of 268 at Sheshan International Golf Club.
Howell saw off some stiff competition for the November award, notably from England’s Paul Casey, winner of the Volvo China Open, and the Welsh pair of Stephen Dodd and Bradley Dredge, who captured the World Golf Championships – Algarve World Cup in Portugal.
The Golfer of the Month Award is presented to a European Tour Member each month for his performance on The European Tour International Schedule and in worldwide competition.
Award winners this year have been England’s Nick Dougherty (January), Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee (February), Ireland’s Padraig Harrington (March), England’s Luke Donald (April), Argentina’s Angel Cabrera (May), New Zealand’s Michael Campbell (June), Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie (July), England’s David Howell (August and November), South Africa’s Retief Goosen (September) and Ireland’s Paul McGinley (October).
