South Africa’’s Trevor Immelman has won The Royal Bank of Scotland Shot of the Month Award for December/January for the second successive year. Immelman will receive The Royal Bank of Scotland Shot of the Month Trophy and a cheque for £1000 to be donated to a charity of his choice.
It was a case of déjà vu as Immelman retained the South African Airways Open title at Erinvale Golf Club close to his birthplace at Somerset West near Cape Town, once again assisted by a superb stroke which wins him the first Royal Bank of Scotland Shot of the Month Award for the 2004 season.
The South African produced a wonderful chip and run from a downhill lie and through a hollow to within two feet of the hole for a birdie at the par five 13th hole to set up a three shot win over Scotland’’s Alastair Forsyth and Steve Webster of England with a 12 under par total of 276. Last year, Immelman’’s approach to the 72nd hole earned him the first monthly Award of the 2003 season.
Runner-up was the nine iron second shot played by Germany’’s Marcel Siem at the tenth hole in the final round of the dunhill championship at Houghton Golf Club in Johannesburg, which he went on to win, while third was Ireland’’s Padraig Harrington, who won the Omega Hong Kong Open in December with a 20 foot birdie putt at the final hole.
The Royal Bank of Scotland Shot of the Month Award, in association with The European Tour, Sky Sports and Golf Weekly, is presented to the Tour Member for the shot judged to be the most outstanding played during each calendar month on The European Tour International Schedule. In November 2004, the winning shots from each month will be entered towards The Royal Bank of Scotland Shot of the Year Award.
