Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen was among the early pacesetters at the BMW International Open at Golfclub München Eichenried today.
Third on his last start at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth just over a month ago, Kjeldsen pitched to six feet on Nord Eichenried's long 11th, his second hole of the day, and then added another birdie two holes later.
At five under par Kjeldsen, who missed last week's US Open with an ear infection, was part of a five way tie for the lead with Welshman Phillip Price, Swede Michael Jonzon, Spaniard Alvaro Velasco and home player Marcel Siem.
After all the rain during the US Open it was the same story in Germany, but the tournament somehow managed to start on time, albeit with placing of the ball being allowed on the sodden fairways.
Swede Henrik Stenson, ninth on Monday and at fifth in the world the highest ranked player taking part, three putted the short 12th, but birdied the next to return to level par, while both John Daly and Luke Donald set off with bogeys, but then made twos on the 12th.
While Kjeldsen bogeyed the 15th and slipped back to one under, Jonzon - whose only Tour win was in Portugal 12 years ago - turned in 33 and then birdied the difficult 10th to stand four under and one ahead of Velasco.
Ireland's Paul McGinley joined the group on two under when he eagled the 568 yard 18th, but his former Ryder Cup colleague Price bogeyed the seventh and was one under.
