Langer Joins Field for HSBC World Match Play

Europe's victorious Ryder Cup Captain Bernhard Langer is to play in the HSBC World Match Play Championship at Wentworth Club for the first time since 1995.

The 47 year old German, runner-up to Seve Ballesteros in both 1984 and 1985, has accepted an invitation to play in the event from October 14-17 and will be up against three of his European Team from Detroit - Miguel Angel Jimenez, Thomas Levet and Lee Westwood - in the 16-man field..

Also competing for the £1million first prize, the biggest in golf, are World Number One Vijay Singh, defending champion Ernie Els, Open Champion Todd Hamilton, US Open Champion Retief Goosen, Volvo PGA Champion Scott Drummond, last year's Masters Champion Mike Weir, KJ Choi, Jeff Maggert and Argentina's Angel Cabrera.

The three remaining spots are expected to be announced on Monday.
