Graeme McDowell recorded his first win for two years as he held off Scotland’s Russell Knox and American Jason Bohn in a play-off for the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
After bad weather forced a Monday finish, Northern Ireland’s McDowell, who missed out on the latter stages of The Race to Dubai’s Final Series after recording only one top ten finish in 2015, holed a crucial 12 footer for par on the final hole for a closing 66 and 18 under total.
That proved enough to force extra holes as Knox, who was seeking back-to-back wins after his WGC-HSBC Champions victory in China, missed the green and bogeyed the closing hole.
And at the first play-off hole, McDowell fired his approach to a couple of feet to set up a birdie and a first win since he successfully defended the Alstom Open de France in 2014.
“I’ve been dreaming of this – this is special,” said the former US Open Champion.
"It really gives me something to grab onto. You go through a year like this and you think 'am I finished? Am I good enough?'
"It has been a tough year but this is special. I have been dreaming of this day and I said to myself I was going to appreciate it when it came.
"I've stuck to my task the last couple of months and this is a nice step back up to where I want to be. I hit as good a five iron as I could hit and it was nice to knock in a two-and-a-half footer to take care of this."
