European Tour players have paid homage to the flourishing West Course, three years after it was renovated by European Golf Design.

Following his opening 66 yesterday, Henrik Stenson praised the greenkeepers, complimenting them on ‘a great job with the course’ while Scotland’s Scott Jamieson proclaimed it was ‘the best I’ ever seen it’.

This year’s date change, with the event switching from May to September, has led to compliments from many, but the West Course has been receiving praise since it was underwent a significant renovation in 2016.

The process began when Wentworth Golf Club invited European Golf Design, alongside Ernie Els Design, and an advisory committee of Paul McGinley, Thomas Bjørn and David Jones, to make wholesale changes to the renowned Surrey track.

Starting immediately after the 2016 BMW PGA Championship, work on the course included:

• Renovation of all 18 greens and putting green

• Renovation of all bunkers, removing 29 from the course

• Renovation of teeing grounds

• Construction of new tee complexes on the third, fourth and 18th holes

• Installation of new irrigation and drainage throughout the property

• Installation of a Sub-Air system on all greens

Following a successful renovation process, the course re-opened for play in April 2017 and hosted the BMW PGA Championship one month later to positive reviews.

Two years on and the West Course has never looked better – thanks to the hard work of European Golf Design, a full summer of growth and the tireless efforts of the agronomy team at the BMW PGA Championship.
