A series of initiatives during the Pro-Am competition ahead of the Irish Open presented by Discover Ireland has raised in excess of €13,000 for Barnardos, the tournament’s Official Charity.
With Major Champions such as Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke, Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington competing at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club, the public responded by turning out in substantial numbers, donating €5 per person towards the Barnardos cause.
Thanks to the generosity of the spectators and other initiatives during the day, the €13,000 raised provided a tremendous kick start to the week-long fundraising activities which will benefit Barnardos Ireland.
Those other activities include the Putts4Charity One Putt Pledge initiative, a partnership between Genworth and the Tour Players Foundation, in which €10 is pledged for every one putt make during the four rounds of the Irish Open.
