Race to Dubai Number One Scenarios

Graeme McDowell is the only player who can overtake Martin Kaymer in The Race to Dubai at the season-ending Dubai World Championship presented by DP World.

Kaymer leads McDowell by €290,910 and for McDowell to make up the deficit and win The Race to Dubai, one of the following scenarios has to unfold:

1. If McDowell wins the Dubai World Championship presented by DP World he will win The Race to Dubai regardless of Kaymer’s finishing position.

2. If McDowell finishes second alone, Kaymer has to finish in a tie for third position with ONE other player, or worse, to be overtaken.

3. If McDowell ties second with one other player, Kaymer has to finish sixth, or worse, to be overtaken.

4. If McDowell ties second with two other players, Kaymer has to finish 11th or worse, to be overtaken.

5. If McDowell ties second with three other players, Kaymer has to be 19th or worse, to be overtaken.

6. If McDowell ties second with four other players, Kaymer has to be 41st or worse, to be overtaken.

7. If McDowell finishes in third place on his own, Kaymer has to be 21st or worse, to be overtaken.

8. If McDowell finishes tied third with one other player, Kaymer has to finish 52nd or worse, to be overtaken.

Official World Golf Ranking

In terms of the Official World Golf Ranking, Martin Kaymer needs a top two finish to have a chance to go to World Number One and a top four finish to go to World Number Two.

The scenarios are as follows:-

World Number One

If Kaymer wins, Westwood needs to finish no worse than tied second with one other to stay World Number One.

If Kaymer finished second on his own, and Westwood finishes outside the top 27, Kaymer becomes the new World Number One.

World Number Two

Kaymer can go to World Number Two if he finishes tied fourth with two others or better.
