Renton Laidlaw Honoured

Renton Laidlaw, the former golf correspondent of the Evening Standard and now a commentator for The Golf Channel, was one of three journalists to be honoured at this year's Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village.

Along with Dave Anderson, the Pulitizer prize-winning columnist for the New York Times, and Nick Seitz, former editor of Golf Digest, Renton received the prestigious international award from Jack Nicklaus after the tournament host has been inducted into the Memorial Hall of Fame.

"It was a remarkable year to be honoured with both Arnold Palmer and Gary Player in attendance at the ceremonies," said Renton. "To be there the same year as Jack was being honoured made it extra special.”

The journalism award recognised the contribution writers and broadcasters have made to the game over the years - 40 in Renton's case. He was involved in the coverage of the Open Championship back in 1959.
