Road to Mallorca Rankings in full swing

The Road to Mallorca Rankings is taking shape after five events have concluded on the International Schedule with many more still to come for European Challenge Tour members.

Nienaber

Wilco Nienaber currently sits in pole position on the Rankings having played every event bar the Dormy Open, which was the second tournament of the Swedish Swing. The South African recorded a victory on home soil in the Dimension Data Pro-Am at Fancourt Golf Estate after posting a 19 under par total and defeated Swede Henric Sturehed on the third play-off hole. The 21-year-old has a total of 57,303 points, 7,886 more points than Craig Howie who sits in second place.

Howie has been ever-present on the Challenge Tour this season and impressively came out on top in the first event of the Swedish Swing at the Range Servant Challenge by Hinton Golf. After the first three tournaments were won by South African golfers, Howie was the first European to triumph on the Road to Mallorca in 2021 and has a total of 49,417 points.

Sturehed sits third on the Rankings and it is another South African, Oliver Bekker, who rounds out the top four places, cementing his name and deservedly so, after a string of professional performances particularly in his native country with a second-place finish at the Limpopo Championship, finishing joint second after losing out to fellow South African Brandon Stone in an thrilling four-man play-off. The 36-year-old also finished in third place at the Dimension Data Pro-Am at 16 under and secured 15th spot at the Range Servant Challenge by Hinton Golf to sit on 37,118 points.

Felix Mory has leapt 103 places on the Rankings having secured an emphatic victory in the most recent tournament, the Dormy Open at Österåkers Golfklubb in Sweden. The Frenchman defeated Sweden’s Björn Hellgren in a play-off in which he birdied the second hole to secure his maiden Challenge Tour victory and catapult up the Road to Mallorca Rankings.

The next opportunity for players to win those all important Road to Mallorca Rankings points is at the Irish Challenge, which takes place at Portmarnock Links from May 27-30, 2021.
