Singh Three Clear in US Tour Championship

Vijay Singh holed an 82 foot eagle putt on the 15th hole on his way to opening up a three shot lead in the US Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

Singh’’s eagle was the highlight of a five under par 65 that took him to nine under par total of 201, three shots clear of Charles Howell III.

Runner-up in 1998 when he lost a play-off to Hal Sutton, Singh started the third round one stroke off the lead but offset his only bogey with four birdies and the eagle on the par five 15th. Tiger Woods got within a shot of the lead with birdies on the 14th and 15th but bogeyed two of the last three holes to fall five behind alongside Phil Mickelson and David Toms.

European Number One Retief Goosen fell back to a tie for 14th after a third round 72, nine shots off the lead, while Open Champion is two shots further back in joint 19th place.
