Superb Dyson out in front

England's Simon Dyson struck a phenomenal seven birdies to surge into the lead on the final day of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews.

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship - Final Round

Dyson was a fraction of an inch away from an outward 29 before another birdie on the par four 12th took him to 21 under par, three shots clear of Scotland’s Richie Ramsay.

Dyson, who in his last four starts has had a win, a third and a seventh, birdied four of the first five holes to charge from one behind overnight leader Luke Donald into a three-stroke advantage.

He retained that lead with five holes to play, ahead of Ramsay who was five under for the day. England’s Oliver Wilson and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy were one shot further back.

Wilson, like Dyson, was seven under for the day while McIlroy was three under.

Seven times a runner-up on The European Tour and yet to win, Wilson turned in a four-under 32 and then made an eight-footer on the tenth.

Donald was tied for fourth at 16 under, having picked up one shot today.

McIlroy, who was joint second with Dyson when he teed off, partnered his father on his 50th birthday.

The event spilled into an extra day because of Saturday's gale-force wind.
