Statement from Mitchell Platts, Director of Corporate Affairs & Public Relations, The European Tour
“This is a direct initiative by the Australian based promoter of the ANZ Championship which is a joint sanctioned tournament between the Australasian Tour and The European Tour.
"As is widely known, The European Tour travels to its joint sanctioned tournaments by invitation. The European Tour was informed on Tuesday January 27 that an announcement concerning an invitation to Laura Davies had:
a) Been extended by the promoter and
b) That an announcement to that effect would be made imminently.
“Our view is that this is a matter for our joint sanctioning partner – namely the Australasian Tour – and that this is a unique situation in that Laura Davies is the current ANZ Ladies Masters champion and that the ANZ Championship is unique with its modified stableford format. We clearly recognise Laura Davies is an outstanding champion and we wish her well.”
