Bursa Malaysia Berhad has recently joined forces with the largest independent golf promoter in Asia – Global One International, formerly known as Parallel Media Asia – as the title sponsor of a new initiative that will be supported by The European Tour – The Bursa Malaysia Swing.
The Swing involves many of Bursa Malaysia’s key Asian markets, encompassing the following events; the UBS Hong Kong Open, the Maybank Malaysian Open, the Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open, the Clariden Leu Singapore Masters and the TCL Classic in China. Each event is co-sanctioned by The European Tour and Asian Tour and is broadcast live to over 65 countries around the world.
The winner of each of these five tournaments will gain entry to compete in a unique skill shot competition – The Bursa Malaysia Swing Grand Final - which will be held at The Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, South Wales on May 28, 2007, and will be one of the first competitive events to be played on the new course re-designed for The 2010 Ryder Cup. The five players will compete for a prize purse of US$300,000.
Going into the TCL Classic, the tournament winners who have gained entry into The Bursa Malaysia Swing Grand Final are: José Manuel Lara (UBS Hong Kong Open), Peter Hedblom (Maybank Malaysian Open), Mikko Ilonen (Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open), and Liang Wen-chong (Clariden Leu Singapore Masters).
This unique sponsorship platform allows Bursa Malaysia to penetrate key markets both in Asia and globally, not only through its strategic partnership with Global One International, but also through The European Tour’s regional and global media partners.
In the past Bursa Malaysia, the stock exchange in Malaysia, has supported golf extensively on a local level and the company sees The Swing as an ideal platform to market their brand name across the world.
