The Staysure Tour continues its stint on English soil with the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship at London Golf Club this week. After last week’s final Senior Major of the season, we take a look at three players who could force their way into contention in Kent.
Clark Dennis
The American showed at the WINSTONgolf Senior Open that he can be a threat from deep within the field, coming from six shots behind to win his fifth Staysure Tour title three weeks ago. He also has form on the International Course at London Golf Club, recording an opening round of 64 and a final round of 67 for a tied 12th place finish.
After a mixed week at The Senior Open Presented by Rolex at Royal Lytham & St Annes, where Dennis struggled on the windy and rain affected Lancashire links, he returns to calmer conditions on the Kent layout where he could be hard to stop if he is dialled in with his irons.
Colin Montgomerie
The Scotsman set a new course record on the International Course at London Golf Club with an opening round of 63, nine under par, at last year’s event. If he can replicate his start from 12 months ago, then the three-time Senior Major winner will be a contender once again.
The 2010 Ryder Cup Captain has been knocking on the door of a win in America this year and should he continue his form in Kent then Montgomerie could be staring down the barrel of a tenth Staysure Tour victory.
Phillip Price
Price has been one of the most consistent performers on the Staysure Tour in 2019, claiming five top tens in just eight events, finishing outside the points only once. A runner-up finish at the Swiss Seniors Open and a tied fourth result in the inaugural Senior Open Hauts de France by Jean van de Velde are the Welshman’s two top fives and he will be hoping for another impressive position on the leaderboard when he tees it up this week.
At last year’s event the former Ryder Cup player carded weekend rounds of 67-68 to end the week in a share of ninth. If he can record four consecutive sub-70 rounds, then he could be lifting his second Staysure Tour trophy in Kent.
