Sam Torrance, who captained Europe’’s victorious Ryder Cup team at The De Vere Belfry, was honoured this week when he received the OBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
The 49 year old Scot, who was also awarded the MBE in 1996 for his services to golf, said: “This is a wonderful honour and one I’’m very proud to receive.
“Obviously, it is a reflection on what happened at The De Vere Belfry, but also an award for golf in general.”
Torrance’’s team won 15 1/2 - 12 1/2, the sixth time since 1985 that Europe has held The Ryder Cup.
