Luke Donald (lost 5&4 to Ernie Els)
"I'm not sure where to start. I just didn't play very well. It's disappointing. I've been working really hard. To lose control of the golf ball like I did today is really frustrating, but I believe the hard work will start paying off soon."
Tiger Woods (beat Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano 1-up)
"I don't think neither one of us had our best stuff today, subsequently the match is back and forth. It was the epitome of match play. I hit a couple of bad putts, I'm not going to deny that. But I had a hard time reading these greens."
Lee Westwood (beat Nicolas Colsaerts 3&1)
"I played really well. I didn't give a hole away, didn't make a bogey. I made six birdies. We had a good match. It was a good, honest, solid match. We both played well."
Rory McIlroy (beat George Coetzee 2-up)
"I struggled to finish it off. I actually felt like before that I played some great golf. I made a bad swing on 16 and made bogey. And then made bogey on 17. I mean it's not great to see the way George finished the match off missing that short putt. But obviously I was relieved."
Martin Kaymer (beat Greg Chalmers 4&2)
" I played very solid, hit a lot of fairways and didn't miss a lot of greens, hit some key putts early in the round. Overall, it was a very satisfying day."
Ernie Els (beat Luke Donald 5&4)
"I played well. I thought I hit the ball well and eventually made the odd putt. Luke had a bit of an off day. I'm obviously very pleased to go through."
Robert Rock (beat Adam Scott 1-up)
"Quite a relief to get through, really. We probably didn't play the best. There was probably better matches out there on the course. I was a bit off today. I got lucky."
Graeme McDowell (lost 2&1 to YE Yang)
"Disappointed. I made six birdies today. I played decent golf. I ran into a man that played extremely well. I felt like I had to follow him all day long, and I did most of the day, but he didn't put a foot wrong."
Paul Lawrie (beat Justin Rose 1-up)
"I played solid. I played nicely. The only mistake I made, I hit a poor shot at the 3rd and made a bogey, and then I hit the wrong club at the 10th. Apart from that, I was pretty much putting for birdie every hole. It was a good game. It was a close game. I think 2 up was the most it was, so it was good fun."
Charl Schwartzel (beat Gary Woodland 4&2)
"I played really solid. I didn't make any mistakes at all. Gary unfortunately hit a few bad shots, he gave me the holes. But I just kept applying pressure. I hardly missed a golf shot."
Matteo Manassero (beat Webb Simpson 3&2)
"I was able to make some important, very important putts. And I think that was the key of this match. There is always something really nice here that doesn't give me that much tension."
Martin Laird (beat Alvaro Quiros 1-up)
"I didn't play my best today. Putted pretty poorly, but last year I played pretty well in the first round and got beat. So it's kind of a nice turnaround of events. That's all you have got to do in this event is beat the guy you are up against."
