Willett set to defend European Masters title

Newly-crowned Masters Champion Danny Willett has confirmed he will defend his title at the Omega European Masters, to be played at Crans Montana Golf Club from September 1-4, 2016.

The Englishman has enjoyed a wonderful spell since his victory in Switzerland last year, rising to number nine in the Official World Golf Ranking thanks to victory in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in January and taking a share of third place in the WGC-Cadillac Championship in March before his heroics at Augusta National.

He finished a close second behind Rory McIlroy in the 2015 Race to Dubai, but is now in pole position to go one better this season and is also assured of making his Ryder Cup debut at Hazeltine National in September.

Last year, Willett led in Crans-sur-Sierre at the halfway stage after an eight under par 62 in round two, and he closed out a one-stroke victory with a flawless final round 65 after going head-to-head with friend and stablemate Matthew Fitzpatrick.
