Woods to Defend Deutsche Bank SAP Open - TPC of Europe

Tiger Woods will compete in the Deutsche Bank – SAP Open TPC of Europe for the fourth successive year when he tees up at St Leon-Rot, Heidelberg, from May 17-20, 2002.

The World Number One will be seeking to capture the trophy for the third time in four years following victories in 1999 and 2001.

“I am looking forward to my fourth successive visit to Germany and to defending my title in the Deutsche Bank – SAP Open TPC of Europe at St. Leon-Rot,” said Woods. “I’’m delighted to be able to confirm that I will be playing and I am already quite excited at the prospect of seeing my fans and friends in Germany again.“

With his triumph in the 2001 Masters Tournament, Woods became the first player to hold all four Major Championship titles simultaneously. In addition to his victory in the Deutsche Bank – SAP Open TPC of Europe, Woods won five times on the US PGA Tour in 2001.

The 2002 Deutsche Bank – SAP Open TPC of Europe will finish on Monday 20 May, a public holiday in Germany, and will be played on the new “St Leon” Championship Course at St Leon-Rot, which opens in May 2002.
