Social media awards 2019

After another great 12 months on social media, we at are honouring those responsible for our favourite tweets, posts, videos and GIFs of 2019.

Lowry on his phone

Video of the year - Shane Lowry’s Open celebrations

What unquestionably turned out to be one of the victories of the year also included some sizeable Irish celebrations.

The videos recorded inside this Dublin pub in the early hours of Monday morning encapsulated the feeling of a nation: cheers to you Shane, Open Champion.

Most likely to make us laugh - Tyrrell Hatton

Without doubt one of the most amusing characters on the golf course, Tyrrell Hatton has produced some of the funniest moments on and off the course this season. Here’s to more of the same in 2020 from Tyrrell!

Most likely to make us cry - Andrew “Beef” Johnston

One of the most popular players on the European Tour used his platform to raise awareness about his mental health struggles this year.

Beef first opened up in a very candid Player Blog ahead of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open. One week later he couldn’t hold back the tears in this emotional interview with Sky Sports’ Tim Barter after firing a final round of 62 at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open – a result that led him to qualify for The Open.

Best on social media - Matt Wallace

This year Matt Wallace further cemented himself as one of the leading players on Tour with a host of fine performances – and social media posts, which is why he takes the prestigious award for best on social media in 2019.

We were particularly impressed with Matt’s ability to be pictured with some of his fellow pros – and stars from other sports.

Best newcomer - Adri Arnaus

The exciting young Spaniard came close to winning on multiple occasions in his rookie season – but he does take the title for our best newcomer award. From his golf content, to training insights, travel selfies and videos of his dog, Adri is one golfer you should ‘follow’ closely on and off the golf course next season…

Best newcomer (notable mention) - Guido Migliozzi

Another rookie who impressed online and on the course this year was Italian Guido Migliozzi. Alongside winning twice, Guido starred in a Guinness World Record attempt while his iron stinger technique gathered interest from fans online.

Contributions to GIFs - Victor Perez

Victor Perez impressed in a number of ways this year – particularly by winning his first European Tour title at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

On the road to victory he did pull this rather interesting face – need we say anymore?

Lifetime achievement award - Miguel Ángel Jiménez

There’s only one Miguel. This season the Spaniard made his 700th European Tour start and reminded us all why he remains one of the most loved players on Tour with our favourite selfie of 2019.
