A former Walker Cup player, his highest finish and biggest prize of his European Tour career came at the 1981 State Express Classic, held at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield. On the final day the Scot, then 24, came home in 32, finishing with three birdies on the last four holes en route to a round of 67 – the lowest of the day. That saw him installed as the clubhouse leader, but Australia’s Greg Norman held his nerve and made par on the final hole to claim victory by a single shot. He now acts as manager to a number of golfers, including: Alastair Forsyth, Stephen Gallacher, Mark Pilkington, Dean Robertson and Marc Warren, winner of the 2007 Omega Mission Hills World Cup alongside fellow Scot Colin Montgomerie.
