For a man with a noted interest in the history of golf, he made sure of an appearance in the annals of the game himself thanks to a stellar year in 2006.

Announced his arrival on the global stage at the beginning of that season with victory in the WGC – Accenture Match Play, beating Davis Love III in the final at La Costa, before becoming only the second Australian after David Graham to win the US Open Championship when he triumphed in dramatic fashion at Winged Foot.

Continued to write his name in the history books by winning the 2008 WGC – CA Championship and then the WGC – Accenture Match Play for a second time in 2009, defeating Paul Casey in the final. That helped him finish sixth in the inaugural Race to Dubai.

Was related to the late Sir Angus Ogilvy, part of Britain's Royal Family, and is an even more distant relative of Scotland's King of Bannockburn fame, Robert the Bruce.

Was given a cut-down club by his dad at age seven and progressed to a scratch handicap by 16, although he was a talented junior athlete in many sports, winning numerous athletics medals at state and national level.
