The European Senior Tour’s most successful golfer, he has won the John Jacobs Trophy - awarded annually to the leader of the Senior Tour Order of Merit - a record five times. Finished Number One for four successive years from 1996, and has claimed a total of 23 titles – the most recent of which was the 2000 Royal Westmoreland Barbados Open. Captured at least one title each year between 1992 and 2000 and in 1997 claimed six titles, a record which has not been surpassed. Health problems limited his participation in the 2006 season to just one event but he returned to more regular competitive action in 2007, when his highest finish was a tie for 12th place in the Ryder Cup Wales Seniors Open. Won eight times on The European Tour, and represented Great Britain and Ireland in two Ryder Cups. Served on the PGA European Tour Board of Directors, and was Chairman of the Senior Tour Committee until 2006. Also a respected coach, course designer, broadcaster and golf columnist, his massive contribution to the game was recognised when he was awarded the MBE in 2000.
