Launched his 2007 season in some style by becoming the first Argentine to win in South Africa when he claimed the Joburg Open, thereby earning himself a two-year exemption, but when he was struck down by an injury to his left shoulder, which required surgery early in 2009, his exemption was extended for a year on medical grounds through the 2010 season. His 2007 triumph was the first of four victories in a glorious year for Argentine golf, preceding successes by Daniel Vancsik, Angel Cabrera and Andres Romero. Finished 143rd on The European Tour Order of Merit in 2006, and then having failed to regain his full playing privileges at the Qualifying School – Final Stage in San Roque in November, he started the new season with two appearances on the Challenge Tour before the Joburg Open. Opportunity knocked, and the Argentine answered the call in commanding fashion.
