    Originally a football and basketball fan, he took up golf at the age of seven under the wing of Spanish professional Andres Jiménez. He started caddieing and quickly progressed through the ranks. At age 17 won the Spanish Doubles title with José Maria Zamora, now a Tournament Director on The European Tour. Graduated through the Challenge Tour in 1995 and, on his seventh start on The European Tour, won the Turespaña Masters Open Comunitat Valenciana Paradores de Turismo. Lost card after finishing 151st in 1998 but regained it at that year's Tour School. Coached by friend and Costa del Sol neighbour, Miguel Antonio Jiménez, cousin of European Tour Member, Miguel Angel Jiménez. Started the penultimate counting event of the 2001 season, the Telefonica Open de Madrid, in 140th place on the Volvo Order of Merit but shared third to secure his card for 2002. Ensured his immediate future on The European Tour by landing the Madeira Island Open in March 2002 on his way to finishing 102nd on the Volvo Order of Merit. The two year exemption proved vital to securing his playing privileges for 2004 after he finished 209th on the 2003 Volvo Order of Merit.
