After an outstanding amateur and college career, made it straight onto the US PGA Tour via the qualifying school and has never looked back. Won his first title in 2007 and added two more in 2010, including his first WGC event, the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Also made his second Ryder Cup appearance that year, his defeat to Graeme McDowell in the singles handing Europe a narrow victory after a thrilling final day. Made it WGC title number two in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in February 2012, defeating Rory McIlroy 2&1 in the final, and another PGA Tour victory in April that year – the Shell Houston Open – moved him up to fourth in the Official World Golf Ranking – at that time he was the highest-ranked American. His father, Monte, is a former undercover police officer in Southern California, and in 2012, along with wife, Kandi, founded the Mahan Foundation, which supports charitable initiatives focused on health and wellness, children and the military.
