    1998, 99* (winner) Qualifying School

American, Jay Horton, had his biggest pay day to date when winning 93,065 euro (£55,550) for finishing second behind Denis Durnian at the 2001 Wales Seniors Open at Royal St David's but then spent the rest of the season struggling to match that sort of form. Altogether, he produced just two top ten finishes, the other coming when he travelled to Turkey and finished tied for tenth at the Beko Classic over the same Gloria course where he won the 1999 European Seniors Tour Qualifying School. A club professional for 25 years, Jay resigned his post as professional at The Country Club, Detroit, to concentrate on the European Seniors Tour. Played the US PGA Tour in the 1970s but decided to take the club professional route to learning a living. Jay has won a number of tournaments in Michigan, including the 1999 Michigan Senior Open and Michigan Club Professionals Championship.
