Born and raised in County Clare, Ireland, but moved to the United States in the 1960s where he became a hugely successful amateur in the Chicago area. Won the Chicago City Amateur twice, the Cook County Amateur twice and the Midwest Amateur three times before turning professional in 1968. Also won the 1978 New Mexico Open and numerous PGA sectional events before qualifying for the European Seniors Tour at the Qualifying School in 1997. His finest moment came when he won the 1998 AIB Irish Seniors Open in front of his home fans at Woodbrook. On that occasion he was aided by a hole-in-one of the 13th hole in the final round and it was not the only time he has secured a timely ace because at the 2001 Wales Seniors Open he holed from the tee on par three 18th hole to make the cut right on the mark. Finished 76th on the Seniors Tour Order of Merit in 2003, thus necessitating a return to the Qualifying School where he picked up the 14th card.
