A club champion well respected in the Sydney area, Julia currently plays off a 2.7 handicap out of the renowned Long Reef Golf Club and The Lakes GC, and is looking to improve her handicap best of 0.1 as she drives forward in her competitive golf.

She had been a sprinter and rugby referee but wanted to find a new sport in 2002 after recovering from being hit by a car a few years before. Taking up golf, she practised every day for six months and saw her handicap drop from 45 to 16.

Bowen has severely limited use of her right arm and a degenerative spinal complaint following her accident.

As her handicap has tumbled, her ambition to play at a high level has expanded: Julia has recently played in Golf Australia’s Victorian and Queensland Inclusive Championships and all four PGA Webex Players Series events.
