Is coached by Günther Kessler, the same man who guided Martin Kaymer to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking, and he now has his name on the same trophy as his friend and compatriot after winning the Allianz Challenge de France. Kaymer won the event in 2006, and Meitinger followed him into the winner’s enclosure five years later after overcoming his fellow German Max Kieffer in a dramatic sudden-death play-off at Golf Disneyland, near the French capital Paris. After a round of 68 saw Meitinger join Kieffer on top of the leaderboard on 15 under par, the duo returned to the 18th hole, which they both birdied. But after Kieffer’s eight iron approach met a watery grave and Meitinger had found the heart of the green, he was left with the straightforward task of getting down in two from 15 feet for a birdie which earned him €24,000 and moved him temporarily to the top of the Challenge Tour Rankings. It was a first victory on the Challenge Tour for Meitinger, who had previously won six times on the Satellite EPD Tour.
