Secured category one Membership of the European Challenge Tour by winning the opening event on the 2005 Schedule – the 47th Abierto Mexicano de Golf.

Gomez, who has twice won the Tour de las Americas Order of Merit, went on to consolidate his position at the top end of the Rankings by winning his second title of 2005, the Tessali-Metaponto Open di Puglia e Basilicata, and finished the year in 11th place on the Rankings.

Gomez was a late starter in golf, taking up the game at the age of 22 after spending many years as a caddie at his home club of Ranelagn in Argentina.
