The Staysure Tour’s three-event final series gets under way at the MCB Tour Championship – Madagascar tomorrow. Here are five things to look out for at International Golf Club Du Rova.
Welcome to Madagascar
Madagascar will become the 46th country to host a Staysure Tour event since it was created in 1992 when the action gets under way. The MCB Tour Championship – Madagascar will write its name in the history books when it becomes the first European Tour-sanctioned tournament to take place in the country with 48 players teeing it up vying to become the inaugural winner.
MCB Tour Championship under way
The MCB Tour Championship – Madagascar will begin the season-ending three event MCB Tour Championship, before it jets off to Seychelles and Mauritius.
The inaugural staging of the event was added to the MCB Tour Championship, joining the MCB Tour Championship – Seychelles, which was first played last year, and the MCB Tour Championship – Mauritius, which will take place for the ninth time on the Staysure Tour.
John Jacobs Trophy closing in
With only three events of the 2019 season left to play, the battle for the John Jacobs Trophy is going down to the wire.
Phillip Price leads the way but has been chased down by two-time winners José Coceres and David Shacklady, currently in third and fifth place respectively. Shacklady won back-to-back events in September and is set to tee it up at all three of the MCB Tour Championship events, giving himself the best opportunity to catch Price.
Ryder Cup stars
There are seven former Ryder Cup stars teeing it up at International Golf Club Du Rova, including 2014 victorious captain Paul McGinley, who led Europe to a 16 ½ - 11 ½ triumph over Team USA at Gleneagles.
The Irishman, who played in three Ryder Cups, is joined by: Joakim Haeggman, Barry Lane, Price, Steven Richardson, Costantino Rocca and Philip Walton.
Worldwide field
The MCB Tour Championship – Madagascar field features 15 different nationalities including Madagascar. Local professional Jean Baptiste Ramarozatovo will be the first Madagascan to feature in a Staysure Tour event when he tees it up this week.
Madagascar is one of 15 countries represented in the field, along with: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, Italy, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United States of America and Wales.
