The event, which will take place at Trevose Golf & Country Club from June 20-23, will welcome legends of the Staysure Tour as they go head-to-head at one of the United Kingdom’s most stunning golf destinations. The role of tournament host will see Woosnam take part in media activity to promote the event to sponsors, spectators and fellow Staysure Tour professionals.

Surrounded by the sights and sounds of the Atlantic Ocean the Championship will provide a challenging test of golf for all players and Woosnam explained why he is thrilled to accept the invitation to become event host.

“I am delighted to be the event host for the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship. The course at Trevose is truly unique and is perfect for an event of this magnitude,” he said.

“I am looking forward to welcoming some of the very best players from the Staysure Tour to take part in what shall be a very enjoyable few days in Cornwall. It’s very unusual to have a links course on the schedule outside of the Majors which makes it extra special. I am very much looking forward to welcoming all my colleagues to this beautiful part of the world.”

The maiden event marks the first time Trevose has hosted a European Tour sanctioned event and some of the notable names who are likely to play include 1999 Open Championship winner, Paul Lawrie, 2014 Ryder Cup Captain, Paul McGinley, one of Italy’s greatest ever golfers, Costantino Rocca, and European Tour winner and Ryder Cup player, Peter Baker.

Nick Gammon, Managing Director at Trevose, highlighted why Woosnam is the perfect choice of Event Host: “Everyone here at Trevose Golf & Country Club is extremely proud of the fact that Ian accepted the invitation to be the host for the event.

“He has had an incredibly successful career in golf and having someone of his stature support the Championship further highlights what a special event the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship will be, not only for Trevose but also Cornwall and the South West region.”

The Staysure Tour brought in the expertise of leading brand agency, Champions (UK) plc who have successfully delivered a number of Championship events including the Farmfoods European Senior Masters and the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship.

Tim Munton, Director of Sport at Champions, explained why they felt Woosnam was a great fit for the inaugural event: “We are delighted that Ian will take up the role of host at the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship. Over the last decade Champions has established a fantastic relationship with Ian and when it came to discuss our host for this new event on the Staysure Tour, Ian was the natural choice. We are now looking forward to welcoming the Staysure Tour to Trevose for what is sure to be a truly memorable week.”
