Tim Thelen after winning 2019 Staysure Tour Qualifying School

2019 Qualifying School graduate José Manuel Carriles won his maiden Staysure Tour title at the European Tour Destinations Senior Classic six months later.

At the 2018 Staysure Qualifying School, Paul Streeter claimed the third card and went on to win the Rookie of the Year Award for that season. The Englishman won twice in 2018 and finished the year in ninth place on the Order of Merit, earning more than €200,000 in his debut campaign.

While compatriot David Shacklady won the fourth card that year and won in his debut season in Russia. Since then, Shacklady has added two further wins to his name in 2019 – The Sinclair Invitational and the Druh Belts presents Paris Legends Championship by Renault Z.E.

A year before, American Clark Dennis famously came through Q-School in January of 2017 and then went on to win the Order of Merit later that year, amassing an incredible two wins and eight top five results in 14 starts.

With the resurgence of over 50s golf, and so many famous names playing on the over-50s circuit, Staysure Tour Qualifying School will offer huge rewards to the skilled players who earn their 2020 Staysure Tour cards.

Head of the Staysure Tour, Mark Aspland said: “The Staysure Tour Qualifying School has proven, year on year, to be a stern but rewarding test for competitors. At the beginning of each season players continue to push themselves to claim one of the five Staysure Tour cards and over recent years the Qualifying School graduates have gone on to thrive during the season.

“Our thanks go to the teams at Silves Golf and Gramacho Golf Club for hosting the First Stage, and to Rui Gago and his team at Pestana for a fitting venue for the Final Stage of the Staysure Tour Qualifying School.

“Good luck to all competitors and we look forward to congratulating the successful five to the Staysure Tour in the New Year.”

Rui Gago, Golf Director at Pestana Golf Resort, said: “During the last two decades we have proudly been the host of the Staysure Tour Qualifying School at Pestana Pinta, Gramacho and Silves golf courses in the Algarve, Portugal.

“It has been a tremendous pleasure to welcome both the competitors and the Staysure Tour team at our facilities. We have watched exciting golf brought to the courses by players from all over the world. It is very emotional and exciting to find out that some players attending the Qualifying School are in the Algarve for the first time.

“Good luck for all the player both in First Stage and Final Stage at Pestana Pinta golf course.”
