Genworth Financial brings Putts for Charity to the 2009 Mercedes-Benz Championship

Genworth Financial, the specialist insurer and European Tour Statistics Partner, has brought its popular fund-raising concept 'Putts for Charity' to the Mercedes-Benz Championship for the first time this week.  Genworth is also a local sponsor for the first time at this prestigious event.

With over €50,000 raised for good causes so far this year at the BMW PGA Championship and The Barclays Scottish Open, Genworth raised another €5000 for charity SOS Kinderdörfer at this third Putts for Charity event of the season, courtesy of Ireland's Paul McGinley, who holed the winning putt at The 2002 Ryder Cup.

“With some help from the Tour Pros and the general public we’re hoping to taking the total closer to €75,000”, said Martin Ring, a director of the Genworth Foundation.  “We will be encouraging everyone at the event to join us in making a difference for this great cause”.

Putts for Charity raises funds for good causes by challenging the general public to make a successful 'one putt' on specially constructed greens at various stops along The European Tour.  For each successful one putt made, the Genworth Foundation donates €1 to charity.  Similarly, for every one putt made by European Tour Members competing in the tournament, €2 is donated.
