Stephen Gallacher and Paul Lawrie swapped roles with the business world to announce the launch of the Foundations Cup, a two day Ryder-Cup style event which will take place at the Renaissance Club, in East Lothian, from September 19–20, 2013.
The competition will see the two European Tour champions lead their respective foundation teams – made up of prominent business people and foundation supporters – in fourballs on day one followed on the second day by the singles competition, where Gallacher and Lawrie will go head to head. There will also be a gala dinner on September 19.
Since the launch of the Stephen Gallacher Foundation last year, this represents the first time that the two foundations have come together with the common goal of raising funds.
Lawrie, who started his foundation in 2001, said: “I have been delighted to help Stephen get his Foundation off the ground. Hopefully some of the experiences [my wife] Marian and I have encountered – both good and bad – that I have shared with Stephen across the dinner table at various events over the years on Tour have helped him, Helen and his team get off to a flying start.
“This new competition makes great sense as a way of raising funds as well as injecting a bit of competition and fun – and as long as we win, everything will be alright!”
Gallacher said: “Getting my foundation going has given me enormous pleasure and satisfaction, and I can’t thank Paul enough for his invaluable support. We look forward to having the two foundations work together where possible but, in the first instance, I look forward to lifting the Foundations Cup in September on behalf of my guys!”
