A family wager for a new set of golf clubs brought his hdicap down in four months from 24 to single figures and by then he was hooked on the game. Living with his family in Swaziland, he played regularly at the Scottsburgh Golf Club, where his family were all keen members too. After several attempts, he gained his playing privileges for The European Tour at the Qualifying School in 1991 but lost them the following year after making only four cuts. After playing on the South African Sunshine Tour, he took up membership of the European Challenge Tour and gained his card for the 1995 season thanks to victories in the Open dei Tessali 1994 and the Himmerland Open 1994. Finished 149th on the rder of Merit in 1995 before stepping away from the game for five years. Made a comeback on the Challenge Tour, finishing 21st on the Rankings in 2001 and 41st in 2002. Confidence gained from the two years of regular competition helped him win the ninth card at the 2002 Qualifying School Finals, being set on his way by a hole in one at Emporda’s 11th in the first round. However he finished 217th on the 2003 Order of Merit.
