Put in a gutsy performance in his last event of 2012, the UBS Hong Kong Open, where a tied 37th place finish kept him in 118th place in The Race to Dubai, the second-last exempt spot. Missed 11 consecutive cuts in the summer that season, but took a share of 16th place at the Portugal Masters to spark a late run of form. Took up Affiliate Membership of The European Tour the week before the Avantha Masters in New Delhi and prospered immediately by winning in India in his first start of 2010. Enjoyed a successful 2009 season on the Asian Tour, finishing 15th in the Order of Merit. Came close to his first Asian Tour victory in 2008 but was beaten in a play-off for the Hana Bank Vietnam Masters by Thongchai Jaidee. Started playing golf aged four when his father took him to Gatton Golf Club in Brisbane, which was next door to the family home. Was runner-up at the New Zealand Amateur Open Championship in 2006 and won the 2007 Australian Amateur Stroke Play Championship. That win earned him a spot in the 2007 MFS Australian Open at The Australian Golf Club in December and he turned professional at the conclusion of that tournament.
